Company of Heroes Online Open Beta!

Posted in Company of Heroes by on September 1st, 2010

Just spotted that the Company of Heroes Beta has moved into the open phase!

I’ve been playing quite a bit of Company of Heroes Online and am quite enjoying it. It’s basically Company of Heroes’ multiplayer with massive levels of customization built in.

Read Greg “Voodoo” Wilson’s (CoHO Producer) post for more details. Looks like they have something planned for CoH, OF, and ToV owners as well!

Hop on board and give it a try, and remember, play the tutorials. Free levels and equipment drops! If you make a new commander and have played the tutorials, you can autocomplete them with your new commander and still get the loot.

Dawn of War 2: Retribution announced!

Posted in Dawn of War by on August 17th, 2010

Relic and THQ announced Retribution, the next expansion for Dawn of War 2. Aiming for a March 2011 release, the game is going to feature a multiple-race single player campaign. Orks have been confirmed to be part of this campaign. In addition, a new race will be introduced into the game and new units for existing races. Here is a quick snip about the expansion,

Taking place years after the events in Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising, this title allows players to choose their perspective with the first multiple-race single player campaign in the Dawn of War II series. The first race to be revealed is the savage Orks, but no matter which race is chosen players will be taken on an epic journey through each story arc, revealing the answers to many questions left open in previous Dawn of War titles.

As well as the single player campaign, Retribution will feature new multiplayer units, maps and an entire new playable faction when it ships.

A trailer is also included in the announcement. Kaptin Bluddflagg also makes a grand appearance in the trailer as well.

Also pirate hat! YAAARRRWAGGGH?!

Recently Relic invited a number of press groups to preview their upcoming third-person action game, Space Marine. Gamespot had a chance to post up their preview of the game along with a video interview with Relic’s Producer, Raphael van Lierop.

This is what the story is going to be so far,

The game takes place as humanity is on the verge of extinction at the hands of hostile alien hordes. An Imperial forge world responsible for building some of the most powerful and technologically advanced weaponry (including the emperor-class titan, the most powerful war machine in the Imperium arsenal) is under siege after being invaded by Ork forces. Your job is to protect it from the Orks. Unfortunately, while the Imperial navy is in the process of mobilising a liberation fleet composed of hundreds of ships and millions of troops to counteract the problem, forces that large require planning and deployment time, making you, a Space Marine of the Ultramarine chapter, the first and final defensive force in the interim.

While it was reported that the Ultramarines were a placeholder chapter for the game, it looks like they’re here to stay.

In addition, Gamespot reports that the game will not feature a “Snap to Cover”, which is prominent in the Gears of War series, in favor of a more satisfying melee combat system.

It is still unknown what multiplayer will feature and if the game will include co-op gameplay.

I sure hope it does have co-op

Kaptin Bluddflagg!?

COMPANY OF HEROES ONLINE CLOSED BETA LAUNCHES IN NORTH AMERICA

PC Gamer got peak at the upcoming US release of Company of Heroes Online.

Here is a snip from the article talking about the changes to COH Online,

Whether it’s your division commander, or the new new army items and hero units gifted by random drops after every battle, the additions made by Company of Heroes Online are all about specialisation. Army items are assigned to your base before a fight, and can grant general buffs to certain types of troop, making your tanks move quicker, for example, or improving the accuracy of your Riflemen. Hero units, meanwhile, are unique special units that gain experience on the battlefield, earning new abilities every time they level up. These abilities vary from a simple increase in sight radius to, in one case, an Axis Halftrack that can self destruct on command to cover an area in flame.

I’d imagine a lot of these changes will refresh the rich gameplay that COH provided before.
