New HW2 Gameplay Video

Homeworld2.com has been updated with a relatively new gameplay video showing a flyby of some ships.

Go to the Homeworld 2 website then to Galleries, then cycle through the gameplay movies. There are several download speeds available.

IC Patch 1.0.1 released.

The long awaited IC patch has finally been released, bringing the game up to version 1.0.1 (err.. or 1.1 if you actually take a look at the in-game version). The patch adds a new mod selector screen, sound engine updates, better mod support, several gameplay balance changes and much more.

To get the patch, simply logon to IC Online and it should download automatically.

New IC RDN tools to be released Monday

Relic has announced that it will be releasing a updated set of IC tools as well as the IC SDK on July 1st. Here’s the blurb from the RDN page regarding the tools:
Impossible Creatures Companion Toolset

The Impossible Creatures Companion toolset is built to install in conjunction with Impossible Creatures. Content creation will now occur within the IC folder structure making testing easier. There have been updates too all of the tools as well as the addition of a few new tools. Note: you will need a Copy of IC installed in order to use the RDN Tools, and SDK.

  • A new Tool the ModPackager tools is now included. This tool lets users create self installing content this includes easy distribution of new maps, data mods, and total conversion mods.
  • Sound Engine updates to IC, have allowed us to create a new PatchEditor tool that is included. This tool lets users easily hook up new audio content for the game.
  • The archive command line tool is now included as well. This tool lets you extract the content of archive files as well as create new archive files.

    The tools that were previously included with the Standalone installer are also included with the Companion installer.

    Impossible Creatures SDK

    The Impossible Creatures SDK (Software Development Kit) is also being released. The IC SDK includes source code from the IC engine that can be used to create Total Conversion Mods for IC. It comes complete with a small sample MOD that demonstrates how programmers can implement new game play in the IC engine.

    Insect Invasion released!

    Relic and MS have just released Insect Invasion, a free mod for Impossible Creatures which features:

  • 15 new base insects and animals that can be combined to create a vast number of mutant creatures, the results of which are limited only by players’ creativity.
  • 9 new abilities for army strategy enhancement and further tactic definition.
  • New environments and Multiplayer Maps.
  • New gameplay enhancements that build on the existing features in “Impossible Creatures”.

    Studio X Labs Article

Even if you think you know all about Studio X, you may want to have a look at this article. I was down at Studio X Labs on Monday to interview Paul Ruskay and that article is the result.

    Boxart Vote!

    The community run boxart contest is having it’s vote. Note that the boxart shown there is not destined for HW2′s cover, just what the art inclined HW2 fans thought would be better than the existing box-art from Sierra.

    HW:C Onslaught Mod

    Looks like Durandel’s finished off the 1.6 Version of the Onslaught mod for HW:C.

    New features include: New ships, making Onslaught a TC mod.
    A combined total of 157 MP maps included.
    Replacement map backgrounds.
    Faster and more agressive gameplay.

    [Update]1.6 is now released, now with over 200 maps and a fully component based Somtaaw mothership.
