Mod site ‘Dark Millenium’ set up

Posted in Dawn of War by on May 31st, 2004

Relic Forums member IWAssassin has set up a site for the new ‘Dark Millenium’ mod here. In his own words:
The purpose is to be an all-encompassing race Mod whose goal is to include ALL races in 40k. Designed to simply be a multi-player race mod [which can also add single player races, but will not add campaigns by itsellf] so that mod makers who want campaigns can have all the races already there, and so people who want to play other races in MP can.
A forum thread explaining just why he’s set this mod up can be found here. We at Relicnews wish him and the mod well, and hope it will be a great success.

Dawn of War Preview @ Fragland

Posted in Dawn of War by on May 31st, 2004

The folks over at fragland have slapped up a short Dawn of War preview. Here’s a small snip:
The animations and quality of the models is extraordinary for an RTS, you see models reaching for ammo before they fire it, streaking missiles and shells are actual objects you can see leaving the barrel and land on the target (or miss the target) Large units and specials (like orbital bombardment) are impressive and if possible even more details with beautiful fire and lighting effects. A game I recommend every RTS lover to play, and if you enjoy Warhammer you should already have your copy preordered, I know I have…
Thanks to ceejayoz for the tip.

Dawn of War Preview @ Gamestar.de

Posted in Dawn of War by on May 31st, 2004

I just spotted on dawnofwar.de that a new preview (in German, obviously) has popped on Gamestar.de. You can use Babel Fish, to translate the site to semi-comprehensible English. I should probably mention that there are two new screenshots included in the preview, that are definetley worth seeing!

DoW Modding Info

Posted in Dawn of War by on May 28th, 2004

Unless I missed it, this is the first “official” bits of info about modding for Dawn of War to come out of Relic via Jay “Shadione” Wilson.

Our game code is completely data-driven, so you could easily attempt to translate a 40k experience into DoW, and we have a whole toolset we’ll be releasing for mod developers, as well as a system for supporting mods (check out RDN off of the main Relic site).

I had always assumed (based on Relic’s history with IC and HW2) that they’d have at least the same level and hopefully more modding support for their future games. Hopefully Shadi didn’t speak too soon (or get in trouble!).

See the full context of his post here.

Full Sized Dawn of War Trailer @ THQ.com

Posted in Dawn of War by on May 28th, 2004

Got a heads up from a reader that a full sized version of the Dawn of War Trailer has been released at the THQ.com Website. Note that you have to register to download it.

Not sure if there’s a larger one coming, but Tranj (THQ Fellow) has indicated there would be, this may be it though.

Update: Here’s the 3dgamers mirror.

Dawn of War Trailer @ IGN

Posted in Dawn of War by on May 27th, 2004

It appears that the folks over at IGN have gotten their hands on the offical DoW trailer. And it looks damn spiffy. You can grab it here, and discuss it here. Thanks to avx17 for the heads up.

Also while at IGN, don’t forget to put Dawn of War on your wishlist.

Tranj from THQ tells us that they will be releasing a higher-resolution version for those of us who aren’t IGN Insiders this evening. We’ll be linking to it as soon as it goes up.

RelicUniverse goes live

Posted in Relic by on May 27th, 2004

I received an email today from the Fansite Competition Commission informing me that Relicnews has no competitors in the field of Relic Entertainment and Dawn of War reporting. This is in breach of Guideline Seven, sub-clause four of the Fansite Competition Law.

Since we wish to be in full compliance with this law, we had Dyntheos – our resident necromancer – return to life our old nemesis, Homeworld Universe.

The new site, RelicUniverse, has just gone live. We wish them well (but not too well) in their future endevours.

Added Note: They also have an opening interview up with Alex Garden, now Director of Product Development at THQ. - UJ

DoW Interview at Computer and Video Games

Posted in Dawn of War by on May 26th, 2004

Computerandvideogames.com has interviewed Jonathan Dowdeswell.

How heavily involved is Games Workshop in the development process, and how have you found working with the Warhammer 40K licence so far? Dowdeswell: Games Workshop has been great to work with, and they’ve been involved from day one. They’ve always agreed with us that we’re creating an RTS game set in the universe they created, not simply recreating the tabletop game on a computer. This has given us a lot of freedom and liberty to do what we do best, which is RTS games.

Thanks to RogueFox for the heads up.
