Those of you browsing the forums today may have noticed the technical issues we were having. Those problems seem to originate in the index.php page for the main forum index.

At this time, we have worked around the problem by re-directing all calls to that page to the Dawn of War Forums.

To get to the other forums, use the Forum Jump drop down in the bottom right hand corner of the page.

Update: Sunday morning, 6:30 am, and here I am finding out the forums have been down all night. I’ve left a note for the Telefragged staff about the problem (and it seems Delphy had earlier). Hopefully they’ll be up soon.

Localised 1.01 Patches Released

Posted in Dawn of War by on September 30th, 2004

The localised (non-english) 1.01 patches are apparently released. Log into the online component of Dawn of War to download them.

Non-english users should now be able to play with English users online, without sync errors.

DoW Review @ Xequted

Another review up at Xequted. 46/50 or 92%

Dawn of War creates a truly epic RTS game experience combining ranged and melee combat together and awesome visual effects which have blood spaying all over the battlefield. Playing is like watching an interactive science fiction war movie and using the fully 3D camera you can zoom right in and enjoy the epic battles that take place right before your eyes. Fans of Warhammer will be pleased with this title and die hard RTS players will defiantly find a new love in the form of one of the greatest science fiction RTS games to hit our PC screens since Starcraft and Total Annihilation.

Hmmmm very similar reviews! Again, thanks to Blues.

I believe this is the online version of the PC Gamer UK Review. 91% is what it weighs in at.

If you know your 40K, you’ll get a head start in Dawn of War, as you’ll know that a lascannon is the perfect anti-vehicle weapon, for example. And for those in this category, you’ll love the faithful and vivid reproduction of 40K units, and the way they’re brought kicking and screaming to life. For those who aren’t interested in tin soldiers - you’d be nuts to miss the finest sci-fi RTS to hit the PC since Total Annihilation.

Thanks to Blues for the heads up.

Firing Squad Review of DoW

Posted in Dawn of War by on September 30th, 2004

Firing Squad’s done a review of Dawn of War. Score: 83%

One thing that really works in favor of the game is its speed and frantic combat. Whether you’re playing single player or multiplayer, the action comes fast enough to not notice any drawbacks to the combat system. Plus, over all, it’s pretty damn cool to send your puny squads to kill an Eldar god’s Avatar. The super units, like the Avatar of Khaine or Bloodthirster, are also available in skirmish and multiplayer.

Thanks to Ceejay for the heads up.

Dawn of War Impressions

Posted in Dawn of War by on September 30th, 2004

Last night, I finally finished Dawn of War. I quite enjoyed it… no it was excellent, perhaps Relic’s best game yet. The game’s atmosphere matched my impression of the game universe to a tee. The music, outstanding! I sure hope Relic/THQ contracts Mr. Soule for the sequel.

I might just have to write a review for this game!

The forums are currently undergoing some optimization maintenance. Should be back up soon. There may also be more maintenance tonight, changing the Database Server (which is performing well as a 3.2 Ghz, 512MB of Ram system) with the Web Server (which is where the problems are, as it’s a 2.8 with 1GB of Ram).

(I just have to say, in the 5 years I’ve been around the Relic community, I’ve never seen more people browsing the forums on a regular basis).

Dow Review @ GameArena

Posted in Dawn of War by on September 27th, 2004

I spotted in this thread, that GameArena has review Dawn of War. Here’s a neat little quote:
Make no mistake – this is the RTS of the year. Possibly the best RTS ever, for those of us who aren’t self professed pro level RTS players. From a RTS e-tard perspective, I’ve had more fulfilling times playing through the traditionally boring-ass introductory sessions than I have had in a lifetime of Warcraft 3 and Rise of Nations beatdowns. But that’s just me; I’m sure there will be hardcore RTS players telling me I’m out of my freakin campaign tree to be claim this game is the best at this early stage. Tough bickie. There’s yet to be a RTS that is as appealing to the mainstream gamer as this one. And it took the decidedly non mainstream Warhammer 40000 world to make it work. Ironic, huh?
No score the speak of as far as I could see, but as the above quote demonstrates, a very positive review overall.

Dawn of War Patch

Posted in Dawn of War by on September 27th, 2004

The first patch for Dawn of War has apparently been released. At this time there does not appear to be any release notes. It is applied only to the English Version, and simply changes the English Version’s number so you cannot play with Non-English Versions. It should be available for download in game.

Download from Worth Playing.

Looks like Dawn of War impressed the reviewers at the BBC.

This accessible and entertaining real-time strategy game puts you in command of one of several warring breeds as they come to blows in a number of gloriously-drawn post-apocalyptic environments.

Check it out here. You can discuss in this thread. Thanks to ceejay for alerting us on IRC.
