DoW Tools Released!

Posted in Dawn of War by on November 11th, 2004

Straight from the Dawn of War forums:

Please note that the tools are in a somewhat beta state, meaning that there still may be a few rough edges. But, by using the tool documentation available at http://www.relic.com/rdn/wiki we feel confident modders should be able to create a wide range of content for Dawn of War.

We’ve also included some sample content, to make your lives easier. This content should allow you to work through some of the tutorials we’ve included in the documentation, and will also serve as examples to those more tech-savvy modders (and we know you’re out there! ) who want to work their magic.

There is a new section in the Relic Developer Network, devoted to modding Dawn of War. You’ll need to create a login to access the RDN, and you’ll need to register if you want to edit the Wiki…but not to read it. We thought that since modding is such a community effort, you might like the ability to actually add to the existing documentation.

Please make sure that you take the time to read the extensive Release Notes section of the Wiki, covering all the little quirks of the tools. Familiarizing yourself with some of these limitations and workarounds will probably save you lots of headaches down the road!

You can grab the tools off of Gamespot, Fileplanet or Fileshack. We’ll update that list as more mirrors become available.

Please note that you will need to have the 1.1 version of the game for the tools to install.

The Making of the DoW Intro

Posted in Dawn of War by on November 2nd, 2004

Great article up about the making of the Dawn of War Intro movie. It’s a three pager, with plenty of images showing the process, and even a couple of movies to help shed some light on the production process.

Our passion and primary goal presently at Blur is to create feature length CG films. Cinematics like Dawn of War, especially ones where we have an active role in the sculpting the story and action, are a great way for us to evolve our pipeline towards long-format storytelling. Over the last few years we have really structured our pipeline so we can produce high quality work really efficiently. Dawn of War is a great example in that we were able to take it from script and storyboards to final composites in under a month.

Please someone let Blur make a full length movie of Dawn of War!

Check it out here.

Relic Boards Yearbook 2004 goes live

Posted in Forums by on November 1st, 2004

Yes folks, it’s that time of year again; the dark months before Christmas when the denizens of the Relic Forums gather together to make the Relic Boards Yearbook. A tradition dating back five years, it is a litany of the dastardly and the depraved. This year’s design was created by madz, and assembled into coherent form by ceejayoz. Go now, and submit your own ghastly visage!
