Gamestar Magazine has Winter Assault News!

Posted in Dawn of War by on March 19th, 2005

Druidika has reported that the recently released issue of Gamestar Magazine has some Dawn of War Tidbits in it. Including a lot of info on the SP campaign. Heck, I’ll just let him do the talking.

Seems like the may issue of Gamestar (major games magazine in Germany) has some new info about Winter Assault, as well as some screenies. I don’t have access to a scanner at the moment, so I’ll see what I can do about that later.
[UPDATE] Made some photos of the screenies with my digital cam, but one can’t recognize anything at all. I’m also not sure about the legal problems that might exist.

Here are the facts:
  • Units in squads look varied now, have slightly different height, faces and so on
  • There’s a new feature called ‘Kill-Cam’ which shows a close-up of those spectacular finishing moves
  • Commissar is included, and boosts the morale by executing soldiers. He’ll be the secondary hero.
  • Sanctioned Psycher is in
  • Techpriest Engineer is in. He repairs vehicles, and one of the screenies shows him carrying an axe for close combat
  • The Sentinel is in, the IG’s walker unit
  • The Baneblade will have awesome firepower, but a rather weak armor
  • The Chimera troop transporter allows units to fire from the inside
  • The main hero will be the Imperial Captain, which is just a bit weaker than the Force Commander. Games Workshop will bring the unit to the tabletop soon.
  • The 4 older races will get new units, but the article doesn’t mention which
  • There will be a ‘good’ campaign which will let you play the Space Marines, Eldar and the Imperial Guard, and an ‘evil’ campaign which will allow you to play with the Chaos Space Marines and Orks. Each of them will consist of about half a dozen missions.
Please note that this is from an early version and might change until the retail hits.

So head on over to to discuss. Even if they don’t get all of those features added, I’m still excited about the enhancements. Kill cam, that should be fun :-)

Mapping Contest Results This Week

Posted in Dawn of War by on March 17th, 2005

Chavez has posted this:

Hey all!

So I know youve all been waiting patiently for us to review all of the contest entries and announce the winners of the Mapping Contest. Due to the wonderful (and overwhelming!) number of entries it took us longer than we had hoped, but the time has finally arrived. This Friday at around 5pm PST, I will post the final in a series of posts that I will be making every day this week around this time.

Each post will have a number of maps covered in it, seperated by the size of the maps, with links to the entry, and some internal comments and thoughts that we’ve collected as we’ve reviewed the entries.

All of these will build up to the final post where we will announce the successful entrants!

Id like to personally thank everyone for their entries, I’ve played every map and had a fun time doing it, it’s fantastic to see where you the community can take Dawn of War with your own efforts.

… in the DoW Maproom.

As he mentions, here’s the first post in his series of reviews. It covers the 2p and 3p maps.

Wow, sounds good! I can’t wait to try some of these maps out!

Update: Andrew’s review of the 4P maps is posted.
Update2: Andrew reviews the handful of 5P and 6P maps here.
Update3: Mr. Chavez’s review of the 8P maps is here.

No Warhammer Games from THQ?

Posted in Relic by on March 8th, 2005

First off, when I say Warhammer, I mean Warhammer proper, not Warhammer 40,000.

It seems Namco has gained the rights from Games Workshop to create PC and console games based on the Warhammer Intellectual Property.

This likely means that we won’t be seeing Relic and THQ involved in making any Warhammer based games using the Impossible Creatures/Dawn of War game engine.

Thanks to Evilavatar.com for the heads up.
