The Outfit Preview at Gamedaily.com

Posted in The Outfit by on June 9th, 2005

There’s a The Outfit preview up at Game Daily.

When I first saw The Outfit I wasn’t impressed with its visuals because it looks like an Xbox game, but Relic put that particular opinion to rest as soon as the explosions went off. The countryside is vast and everything can be destroyed. You can turn stone enclosures into dust by running them over with a tank, blow holes in houses (and eventually bring them to the ground), blast apart a bridge and watch as the train that was crossing it awkwardly plunges to its doom, and uproot trees and leave behind immense craters. Dirt is kicked up, wood splinters and flies every which way, and explosions erupt across the clear, blue sky and kick up dirt and debris. Meanwhile, 40-60 highly detailed onscreen characters run about, planes soar overhead, and several vehicles zip across the grassy terrain, and the frame rate never wavers. The more I watched this carnage (in total awe, by the way), I realized there is no way in hell this is even remotely possible on the Xbox.

He’s also not taking into account that they’ve got a lot of the graphical options off as they don’t have final hardware that will support them yet.

The Outfit Videos @ IGN.com

Looks like we may have missed this info…

IGN has a couple of videos up, including an interview with Adrian Crook (Producer @ Relic) that has some great information in it (including the names of who’s doing the voice overs for the main characters!). Looks like Robert Patrick, Ron Perlman and TC Carson are signed on to be the voices of the Heroes.

Also, check out the gameplay footage, and you’ll have a good idea of what we got to see at E3.

Best Strategy Game @ E3

Posted in Company of Heroes by on June 8th, 2005

The Gamecriticsawards.com results are in! Company of Heroes has won Best Strategy Game of E3 2005!

While high-end graphics cards are the norm for PC gamers looking to get their action groove on, rarely are these cards bought with the intention to play the latest real-time strategy game. That may change with Company of Heroes, which wowed the crowd with both its visuals and its core RTS elements from the creators of Homeworld and Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War. The movement of the soldiers during different encounters was as impressive as the game’s environments - almost anything on the screen can be blown up and used for cover, giving a fundamental realism to the battle sequences. Company of Heroes proves that in order to stand out in a genre that has become stocked with the ordinary, there can be no boundaries.
