Relicnews: the definitive source for all things Relic

Weekly Forum Roundup

Posted in Forums by on July 30th, 2005

Holy crap, it’s that time of the week again. No, I’m not talking about bees and flowers here, and I don’t mean Mr. Umur’s special kebab friday either - even though you have to admit that 2.50 for a large kebab with a coke sounds pretty darn good.

No, it’s time for our weekly forum roundup! I’m fairly sure that all five of my readers (hi mom, thanks for stopping by!) are eagerly awaiting this week’s top threads.

This week on the Relicnews forums…

Now, we all know that Japanese scientists are a little whacko. I mean while other scientists create normal things like faster cars, intelligent vacuum cleaners or neutron emission weaponry, those guys keep cranking out stuff like Tamagochis (fairly sure I got the spelling wrong there), or those weird robot dogs.

Well, they have done it again. Japanese scientists create android is the place where you can read about (and discuss this) latest development.

Personally, I love the idea. I want one of those, maybe make her look like Lucy Liu. Although we all know how that ended, so at least all you Futurama fans may want to stay away from that idea.

The strange cave people (no, not the dwarves, I mean the guys and gals from the maproom) have released the third community map pack for Dawn of War. Announcement and discussion thread here - definitely worth checking out. It’s kinda sad that nobody plays those maps though. And by that I mean: get off your lazy asses and download the map pack, so people actually have a chance to find partners for playing the wonderful new maps online. Seriously, start doing that. You don’t want to be responsible for mass suicides among map makers, do you?

I’m sure you have all heard of those fun maps in Warcraft and Starcraft like Turret Defense for example. Well, this seems to be quite hard to duplicate with the DoW map editor - but that doesn’t mean that you can’t start crazy games. The CultFest is a series of fun games designed to show just how much punishment those powerful units can take.

Top DoW players will back me up on this, cultists are the mammoth tanks of Dawn of War. An unstoppable army of highly trained killing machines, these brutal warriers are armed with seriously overpowered portable laser weapons - and in CultFest they will have to prove themselves by surviving several gauntlets.

The replays should prove entertaining, personally I’m most interested in how far those things can fly when they step on mines…

Attention Homeworld fluff fanatics: What did the Emperor* do to Karan S’jet? probablyqualifies as one of the largest bumps ever. The original thread was started three years ago, and died out quite fast. Then someone decided to revive it, and the speculation has been ongoing ever since. Visit the thread, take a few screenshots, they will probably be of historical value.**
*How come everyone spells it “Emporer”?
**Ok, so it’s boring, but this was a really slow week. I blame ceejayoz.

Something for you Homeworld-1-was-so-much-better-than-Homeworld-2-people: If you haven’t already, you really need to check out the Requiem War thread in the modding forums. It all started two years ago when someone asked “stupid idea, but is anyone interested in porting HW1 to HW2?” Now, for some weird reason (I’m tempted to blame quantum mechanics for this) people did not reply with “stfu n00b u moron”. On the contrary - people seemed to think that the idea wasn’t stupid at all. And so Requiem War was born.
Requiem War is a modification for Homeworld 2 that attempts to bring back the original ships and gameplay elements. The mod is not finished, but the thread should be visited for the gorgeous renders alone.

Well, I’m off to spread a little joy elsewhere. My plans for next week involve a certain special someone and lots of yoghurt, I hope your respective weeks are entertaining as well. Until next time, I’m Moe, saying “as always, you’re welcome, even encouraged to comment on this post.”

I think everyone should jump on the “What did the Emperor do to Karan S’jet?” thread bandwagon. =D

Woot for cultfest!
Wait a min…
No mention of GrotFest…
What is this? Not worth a mention for our tireless work which has been succesful for months now, and is the predessesor to CultFest?!
I’m hurt Moe, really hurt…

Still, huzzah for CultFest.

First of all, I want to say one thing:
I’m proud and honoured that CultFest is mentioned in the weekly forum roundup, but I don’t feel CultFest deserves to be mentioned without saying a single word about the great forefather GrotFest!!
After all, GrotFest was the first thing around, all honours to Grabnutz! I prob’ly wouldn’t even gotten the idea if it wasn’t for GrotFest.

I say HOORAY FOR GROTFEST!!

Actually, wasn’t GrotFest based on something else as well?
In any case, sorry for the oversight. That’s what happens when you post at 1 in the morning.

So don’t procrastinate, Moe. :P

Based on something else?
Nope, not intentionally anyway.
And Moe, really, the big fluffy rectangle in your room, if you take up a horizontal position on it, then all the bad things go away.
