Patch 1.4 And Winter Assault

Posted in Dawn of War by on August 28th, 2005

Since there has been some confusion regarding this topic, I’ll attempt to clear this up.
Patch 1.4 will apparently be released with Winter Assault. Here’s how it works:

  • If you don’t have Winter Assault, you will be able to download 1.4 for the vanilla DoW game like any other patch via Gamespy (and we will mirror it and provide a .torrent download)
  • If you bought Winter Assault, you won’t have to download the patch. Just install the expansion, patch 1.4 is included and will be applied during the installation.

Do you have an option of not applying the patch during the Winter Assault installation?

Of that I am unsure. It could be that Winter Assault requires patch 1.4 or it won’t install, but that is speculation on my part.

More importantly, why would you want to not upgrade to 1.4?

You might not want to upgrade if you don’t want to break mod support for v1.3 mods that you play. In those cases I would recommend trying to keep two seperate installs on your PC, if the registry checks will let you.

They will - simply install the game, patch to 1.3, then copy the install directory to another location. After that you can apply 1.4, which will only affect the original, not the copied folder.
