IGN: The Outfit Vignette

Posted in General by on January 27th, 2006

IGN has been putting up videos of the Outfit, highlighting the game’s features. Their latest video highlights the three heroes of the Outfit and the voice actors behind them. IGN also posted a short article along with the video.

Following the first two video vignettes (which we have brought to you exclusively), today’s movie focuses on the three heroes, Tommy Mac (voice-over by Ron Perlman), Deuce Williams (VO by Robert Patrick), and JD Tyler (by newcomer T.C. Carson). Watch the video to see those actors during the voice-over sessions and to see how each character blows things up. I mean it. Can you really ever get enough stuff blowing up? We’ll have more oh-so-soon.

The article also explains that there are up to 6 different squad leaders personalities in multiplayer. Go check out the article. The videos are posted here.

New Developer Diary: Pimp my tank!

Posted in The Outfit by on January 24th, 2006

The official Outfit blog has a new developer diary up on the stylish options you’ll have to choose from in multiplayer…

The customization in The Outfit is easy. The player has the option to select one of 13 decals sets. The decal artwork replaces the single player Allied and Axis markings on vehicles. For example a swastika on a Panther tank becomes a cute bunny if the decal set “Fluffy Bunny” is selected. A decal set also has a signature vehicle associated with it. In “Fluffy Bunny’s” case the Allied Greyhound turns pink and the Axis Flammpanzerwagen is streaked with flowery flames. Each of the 13 decal sets has both Axis and Allied versions.

Original Homeworld 2 Scripts Available!

Posted in Homeworld 2 by on January 17th, 2006

Having a professional stalker on staff pays off sometimes. An excellent example of this is Uberjumper (after getting the OK from the folks at Relic) releasing the original Homeworld 2 scripts which he managed to acquire after a Mission Impossible-like assault on the building where Relic Entertainment’s offices reside.

RelicNews.com is proud to present two scripts for Homeworld 2, a draft from november 2002 and the final version from 2003.

You can discuss them on this thread, where a couple of Homeworld-VIPs such as Relic designer Rob C and author Peter Watts have also commented.

Rrrrrrrrraphael @ Gamecloud

Posted in Relic by on January 13th, 2006

Everyone’s favourite Warhammer 40K Assistant Producer has an interview up at Gamecloud.

Gamecloud - What do you see are the big events and trends that will affect the video/PC game industry in 2006?

Well, the PS3 and Revolution releases are going to be huge. Other than that, continued consolidation of developers, the big publishers getting bigger, more small devs going out of business, and more trash talking of games by ignorant politicians are probably safe bets.

I also think Windows Vista is going to change the face of PC gaming as we know it. When a company like Microsoft decides that PC gaming is a pillar of their Windows strategy, you know the impact is going to be big. I’m hoping that we’ll finally be able to do away with some of the PC game accessibility issues (things like installation, patching, hardware configuration and drivers, etc.) that have kept the PC lagging behind consoles as a convenient gaming platform.

Lastly, if Bungie gets Halo 3 out the door in 2006, and the Peter Jackson-directed Halo movie hits the big screen … well, those will both qualify as ‘big events’ in my book.

He also comments on some games that he saw at E3 that he’s looking forward to. Both Prey and Alan Wake were on the top of my E3 list as well.

The Outfit Footage at IGN

Posted in The Outfit by on January 13th, 2006

Looks like Relic’s cranked out some video for IGN.

Relic’s first Xbox 360 title puts these characters to use by leading them through 12 single-player missions, each packed with vigorous enemy AI that re-takes unguarded vantage points, calls in heavy half-tracks, tanks, and air-strikes — just like you — and can hammer you quicker than you can say zippity-do-dah-day.

This latest trailer called Pure Destruction, created exclusively for IGN, shows Relic’s continued improvement across the board. Have a look at this high-res, 640×480, in-game action flick.

Check it out here. Note that only IGN subscribers can get the High Res stuff, the rest of us are stuck with the 320×240 video size.

Sword of the Stars Publisher

Posted in Homeworld by on January 11th, 2006

Looks like one of our favourite developer collectives is getting some action from a publisher.

Playing as one of 4 unique races, gamers will explore planets, research new technologies and create empires in a hostile Universe where weakness means extinction and only the strongest will survive. Sword of the Stars provides quick, intuitive play, state-of-the-art graphics and tactical combat that make the game instantly involving and rewardingly fun.

If it’s due out in Q2 (June) that means a demo soon! I eagerly await it!

Small WA Map Pack

Posted in Dawn of War by on January 11th, 2006

Aralez has released a small map pack for Winter Assault. Creatively titled “Small Map Pack for Winter Assault”, this .zip file contains two maps for the Dawn of War expansion.
These maps are optimized for cooperative matches, with a three-player team defending a stronghold against a strong attacker. The defenders are protected by heavy gates and special weapons.

You can download the map pack here (installation instructions included), and you can discuss it on the forums.

The Outfit Interview @ Worthplaying

Posted in The Outfit by on January 4th, 2006

I noticed that EvilAvatar had a link to a very interesting interview with Relic’s Adrian Cook about Relic’s first soon to be released console title, The Outfit.

WP: Can you tell us of the key differences between ‘The Outfit’ and ‘Company of Heroes’ (your upcoming PC RTS)?

AC: They’re completely different products. The Outfit is third person, high action – not a strategy game. We don’t share many similarities at all.

WP: With two major titles in development right now, Company of Heroes being the other, how big has the Relic staff become? How do you organize the work flow between departments, or does each product have it own separate team?

AC: Relic is currently just under 200 people. We recently moved into a great office tower in downtown Vancouver. The PC teams are on the 15th floor, The Outfit is on the 16th floor. Each product has its own team. Life here at Relic is good!

200 People! I don’t have room in my “I stalk Relic” file cabinet for dossiers on all those people! Seriously though, this game is awesome to play! Errrr or so I hear anyway.
