Relicnews: the definitive source for all things Relic

Weekly Forum Roundup

Posted in Forums by on March 17th, 2006

Howdy!

It’s been… a while. I would say I was busy, but then again that seems like such an obvious excuse. So instead of making crap up, I’ll just say that I haven’t updated the forum roundup because I’m a lazy bastard. Ha.

With that out of the way, let’s dive into the fun once again. A bunch of cool threads await.

This week on the RelicNews forums….

You may have heard of Sword of the Stars and Sins of a Solar Empire, two 4x games that are currently under development. I would link you, but my dog ate my google, so you’ll have to search for yourselves.
Anyhow, Sword of the Stars (SotS) is made by Kerberus, a new outfit with a bunch of oldschool Relic developers. Sins of a Solar Empire (SoSE) is not made by Kerberus, but it has a name that sounds similar. Both games are somewhat similar in concept, so Squid had this awesome idea - why not combine the two?
The result is SofTits - Sins of Things in the Stars. SofTits is much more than a funny acronym however; it is a call to pens, keyboards, tablets and paint brushes. The combined creative powers of The Studio launched on a holy crusade to create concept art and background stories for what will one day be the best game in the universe. You can check out awesome “screenshots” and cool stories in the official thread. Everyone is invited to help out of course, if you have an idea for a race, technology or historical background, go and post now.
Reading through this part I realize that you may not be that enthusiastic about clicking, so let me just mention three words: “tentacles” and “schoolgirls”1.

After HunterX’s attempt at making a second “RelicBoards - The Movie”: and Lestaki’s subsequent writing of the Relic Tales, Riess started drawing forum members. I know I am biased, because I am featured, but believe me - this thread is pure awesomeness. To quote frstkor, this stuff is some of the greatest to ever grace our forums. Definitely worth checking out!

Next up in the Studio is this gem that ceejay dug up. Ok, so he can’t take credit for it, but that’s actually a good thing in this case. The thread features some of the worst websites ever, including a website that plays a hymn to glaucoma.
If you know of other horrible sites that by all rights ought to have fallen victim to a “server crash”™ by now, feel free to contribute.

In case you haven’t noticed yet, Tranj, our resident THQ ninja assas… I mean producer, is requesting a wishlist of features for an online matchmaking system. Apparently Relic/THQ are looking into improving the, uhm, less than stellar Gamespy matchmaking service currently in use for Dawn of War. Got a suggestion for a feature that’s currently missing? Head on over to the thread and let them know!

Got Homeworld 2? Then you may be interested in BrickSpace. Sastrei presents his fresh new mod idea. For all of those who spent their childhood building huge lego battlefleets, this is your chance to see them fight it out in 3-d. BrickSpace replaces the stock HW2 ships with lego models. Although the mod is still in the alpha stages, coolness is guaranteed.

That’s all for now. Since I have no conscience (I am hoping to get one for christmas this year though) I’ll happily promise that the next installment of the Forum Roundup series will come “soon”™.
Until then feel free to PM me with suggestions for material, and watch this space for news and an extra special surprise™ which will be announced soon™.

From the CNN headquarters in Atlanta this is Moe, running like hell to get away from security personnel.

You missed the apostrophe after the i in my name, Moe. ;) Other than that, wee, a new forum roundup! Keep it up, I’ve always loved these things.
