Dark Crusade hands on @ Gamespot

Posted in Dawn of War by on September 19th, 2006

Gamespot posted their hands on impression of Dark Crusade. They explain the main campaign in detail, the honor guard feature, and commander customization. Here is a quick snip from the article,

There’s a lot more to the campaign than just worrying about strongholds, though, as there are plenty of strategic implications on the map that may affect your war. Territories are rated by military strength, so it’s wise to avoid heavily defended territories until you can build up your military forces and your strength. Meanwhile, some territories convey strategic advantages to whichever faction owns them. Possessing the Eres Badlands, for instance, gives you control of the chaos god’s relic, which lets you launch two attacks per turn, where before you were limited to only one. Or, gaining Pavonis gives you control of the planet’s space port, letting you use transports to leapfrog and attack any territory, even those that aren’t adjacent to your borders, though you can’t use it to attack strongholds. These bonuses can make non-stronghold territories a tempting target.

i think that dark crusade is realy more ai field and strategic and the no councer the world looks awsome but the demo realy have some problems like 3 librarians and their supre smite it think the assault marine no jets and realy tau look unbalanced but i hate demo no necrons! That is whay im realy mad i hope necrons are going to be powerful to KILL EVERYONE! but chapaing is going to have all 7 races for playing in champ and skrimish is going to be asome whit many races like i as necron whit all races under control of the power.I have seen that tau are going to use reuqisition and necrons i think are going to use power.I woder how much healt and atack Nec Monolith has and the NIGHTBRINGER.But at all is have seen all the movies and necrons are going to have been overpowered their retrection powers make the alive again so FOR THE NECRON!

If the expansion does not require the other two games to play, and has all 7 races, then is the only point in buying the other games getting more maps and campain content? (assuming all the previous maps arent included. i already have both games, so it doesnt much matter to me, but still, id like to know

I like how they incorporated elements of Risk (though Axis & Allies might be a better description) into the gameplay. I’ve always wondered why the failure of a relatively noncritical mission in most RTS games prevented you from moving on with the game. If the real military worked like that, and we’d have to win EVERY SINGLE BATTLE we fought, things would go sour really quick.

I want this game. NOW! A shame I’m broke and ethical. _

Oh, and Mr. Unoriginal - you require the original DoW, but Winter Assault is optional: you can play Dark Crusade without it. But you won’t be able to use IG in skirmish and multiplayer (dunno about the Campaign) without the WA expansion installed.

Woops, I guess I should have read the article before shooting my mouth off. Apparently, you don’t need EITHER game (according to the article) to play DC. I’m skeptical about that, but if that’s what it says, I have no reason to say nay.

I imagine you’d get more maps, at any rate. Maybe I was half right with the use of IG in multiplayer or skirmish…

I’m confused. Is this more Rise of Nations conquer the world style? That’s cool but we will still get fun cut scenes and character development?

Posted by Necronus at September 20th, 2006 at 1:25 am

tou do not need winter or dawn of war original and you can play dark crusade it is a alone stand expansion that is cool!

The way the expansion works is that you don’t need either of the other games to play it. However, you will be limited to only being able to play as the Necrons or the Tau in any kind of game you play. So, if you want to play as the Space Marines, you would need DoW. The same for all the other races. Hope that eliminates the confusion.

yea but it is best to have both expansions so you can play any rece i already have all expansions and now it is the time for DARK CRUSADE!!

hey guys:) i think that dow has evoled during its time with us,adding few new races along as it went on but i think out of all the dow’s dc has to be the best becuase of the way each storyline for each race is layed out and the amount of freedom you have on it too. on the other dow’s you only played as one race or four races(winter assualt campaign) but in this one you have more of a choice as of in which races to choose from which i think is a good idea.

how do you put dark crusade into the original dow? I want to be able to play with all the races so…plz explain, as well as, putting in winter assault. Oh and is there any more expansions besides those two?
