Bad News For Disconnection Exploiters

Posted in Dawn of War by on October 27th, 2006

A lot of people have been complaining about cheaters using a disconnection exploit to boost their stats. THQ is now actively banning CD keys from online play and deleting stats if they catch someone using this exploit.

Tranj from THQ posted this announcement:

We have banned several accounts that were caught using a disconnect exploit. Anyone caught cheating in any way will immediately have their stats removed and their CD-Keys banned permanently.

Ha the noobs got what they deserved!

Hmm makes me wonder, how easy is that exploit to use, if it is easy enough it might happen that newbies to CoH (such as myself) might be banned for accidentaly exploiting a bug. I know I dropped out of a game near the end of it because I had practically lost it, and that was before I knew about the exploit.

haha,

instead of fixing the problems of their products (what about a hotfix?!) they punish the customers.

an helios_five is right … what about people using the exploit without knowing it?

I don’t think relic would ban an account if someone made a mistake. They don’t want people getting high stats because they found a way to exit and win.

I agree that they got what they deserved. However, how would they distinguish legitimate disconnects from cheating?

yeah that was a bad move, sumtimes ppl get disconnected for other reasons, they should have fixed it so that it counts as a loss or sumthing because its not that serious of an offense, they hurt no one, they only boost themselves. so yeah they should just make it count as a loss

Well I had the game crash mid game last week… I bet the other guy thought I pulled the plug… I wonder if this happens will I be falsely penalized?

I agree that the game should be fixed… accidents DO happen occasionally.

ban them all i hate those quitters !!

I hate cheaters of any kind. but when a developer falls back on “ban there CD-key”. it means that they have not thought there software through well enough. banning people is not the answer.

I’m fairly sure that THQ won’t disclose how they determine if someone cheats - after all, they don’t want to give them ideas on how to circumvent the checks.

If people had a brain they could see how it can be detected. Simple, they can probably track the relative number of siglan disconnects to wins. If some one has a disproportonate number of wins to disconnects, say 25% or more of disconnect wins, they get the boot.

As for software, Relic is a good company. And you can not eastily test for some bugs. Others are just not concieved of, kind of why they are called exploits. Any of you familiar with the duping exploit from Diablo? May be some others in WoW or Everquest. So stop getting all high and mighty and accept it happens.

That would mean im in trouble, I have 100% disconncects, since I haven’t gotten multiplayer to function more than one game. That net code aint working very good, but that is another issue.

Did any of you fools read the actual post before sounding off? Of course not…

Why not simply fix it so anyone dropping/quiting/disconnected gets a loss? Or are you saying that they can not fix it so now ban people. Surely if they made it that anyone drops and got a loss, that would fix the problem then and there.

How many keys have been banned? I wonder if this is an actual measure that will have a true impact on the drop-hackers, or it is more of a scare tactic.

Can we get some numbers or a list of names of the “confirmed Cheaters” ?

hey whats up with this when im winning i get kicked what ?? just now i was playing with my clan on dc and we all got dropped to desk top then i get an bug report i try to send it but it dont work all mose of the games i play and lose is from this cant you fix it

I think RELIC should fix the error instead of banning people that paid money to play the game with an online community. Seems quite harsh if you ask me - considering it is a RELIC problem. People make errors / mistakes, like game designers, so lets punish the gamers instead. Im glad Relic deals in gaming software and not politics.

Well i tell you what i stopped playing online because 90% of the time people dropped. I matched up against this guy that had 94 wins and 12 loses he dropped 5 minutes into the game. I swear 80 % of you out there crying were using this so shut up… now go play and lose. CHEATERS

I never have been disconnected in game NOT ONCE.

I dont play online because of previous online experiences. No point really, there is always someone screwing it up for everyone. I could care less if they keep banning cd keys, but I agree with orderofrecluse, you shouldnt punish gamers for a problem that is Relic’s responsibility. They missed this error, so they should have released a quick fix patch before now instead of trying to fix every little detail of the game like “art” with larger patch. This seems to be the main issue with COH buyers. It is after all only a game, so what does it matter? Just play, if you cant play online happily, play SP skirmish or something….geeeezzz
