What’s Up @ Relic

Posted in Relic by on January 23rd, 2007

Allie’s posted the second of her “What’s Happening at Relic” posts.

Highlights include info about 2 patches in the works for CoH, DC Patch, maps, and the first bit of ROEAHP actions.

Check it out here.

Allie’s posted up Relic’s Online Exploitation and Harassment Policy… or ROEAHP (sounds like an Anti-tank round. Rocket Operated Explosive Armament - High Powered).

Relic Entertainment is now taking appropriate action against players involved in activities that may create an uneven playing field for others or have significant negative impact on the enjoyment of Company of Heroes for all players. This may involve (but is not limited to) activities such as “drop-hacking”, in-game aggravation, or verbal harassment…

Company of Heroes cheaters, beware!

Posted in Company of Heroes by on January 9th, 2007

Buggo has confirmed that she is now banning accounts from Relic Online for cheating. From the sounds of it, this includes people exploiting the drop bug/exploit/hack.

Accounts have been banned already, with more to come. I’m personally doing it.

If you cheat, that’s your fault.

Relic Awards Summary for 2006

With a little bit of help from Relic, we’ve got a summary here of the awards Relic (and THQ) have won for 2006.

Relic
  • 2 Developer of the Year Awards
THQ
  • 1 Publisher of the Year Award

Company of Heroes

  • 37 awards including 6 Game of the Year Awards and 11 Strategy Game of the Year awards

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade

The Outfit

  • 1 Game of the Year award

Relic’s Company of Heroes is also ranked the fifth best pc game of all time (28th overall for all games, all platforms, and well ahead of Homeworld) on Gamerankings.com.

For all you new folks, welcome to the cult of Relic.

IGN has published their Best of 2006 awards, and Relic managed to snag three (EDIT: Make that SIX of them- UberJumper): Best Expansion Pack, Best Strategy Game, and finally Best Developer (add PC Game of the Year, Best Use of Sound and Best Online Game . It was also Runner up in as Most Innovative Design and Best Graphics Technology. - UberJumper) .

Relic Studios has been making excellent games for years and it’s about time they were given the credit they so richly deserve. This studio has consistently developed top of the line products from the time they released Homeworld to this year’s superb Company of Heroes that seems to keep getting better with time. Company of Heroes was only one of the reasons that Relic earned the award this year. Not only did they develop that amazingly thorough look at real-time strategy set in World War II, but also continued their excellent Dawn of War series set in the bleak future universe of Warhammer 40,000. Dark Crusade not only expanded the universe but managed to change the way the game worked with a new type of campaign and the Necron faction which functions quite a bit differently than the other six. This year just cements the fact that Relic has become one of the premiere developers of real-time strategy games. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

You can discuss this here. Thanks to Nazuel for pointing this out.
