Alex Garden’s Back in the Game!

Posted in General by on February 21st, 2007

Everyone’s favourite Game God is getting back into the gaming scene. After a legally binding haitus from the gaming industry (I’m told it was part of his negotiations with THQ), Alex is now head of Nexon’s North American game studio (location unknown at this time).

Alex Garden, a Canadian game developer who made “Homeworld” and “Warhammer,” has joined Nexon to take charge of its North American game studio, the company said on Friday.
Garden will lead the North American operation that will develop casual online games targeting North American and European markets. He will also supervise game publishing projects.

CoH: Game of the Year

Posted in Relic, Company of Heroes by on February 21st, 2007

I just picked up the March 2007 edition of PC Gamer . Shock and Awe, it’s the 2006 Game of the Year award edition!

As it should be guessed, Relic’s Company of Heroes was in the running, and it took home the prize!

We’re as surprised as you are that a World War II game can still impress us this much, considering how many others we’ve seen in the past few years, but Company of Heroes completely blew away the competition, and then rolled over it like a Sherman tank, capturing a second Game of the Year award for Relic Studios (the first was Homeworld in 1999).

Somebody needs to tell them that it’s Relic Entertainment not Relic Studios :-D They also awarded CoH RTS of the Year as well.

Yeah Relic!

Dark Crusade Mentor Program

Posted in Dawn of War, Forums by on February 21st, 2007

One of our forum members by the name of Lor3-16 is organizing a Dark Crusade mentor program. The idea is that experienced people take newbies under their wing for a while to teach them the ins and outs of online play.

You can read more about the program in this thread or send a message to Lor if you’re interested in signing up as a mentor.

Relic’s Biggest Fan Contest Winner!

Posted in Relic by on February 5th, 2007

Looks like goldo_O has won the Relic’s biggest fan contest with 87% of the votes!

goldo_O (Adrien Debos) really had an amazing fan movie complete with animations, compositing and a really great story behind it all. We are saving the video to premiere at the Open House in March, but I will post up the top submissions after the Open House for all to see. His video won in by a landslide in the Relic employee votes.

See this post for full info.

Voodoo Extreme posted their article talking about the best 20 Games since the launch of Windows XP (or October 25, 2001). Company of Heroes was ranked 7 on their top 20. Here is the comment they made about the game,

One of the few World War II games that didn’t bore me to death was Company of Heroes, from long-time strategy developer Relic. It looks great, plays smoothly and the multiplayer is a lot of fun. The single-player portion of the game is presented very well, and the attention to detail is superb. Out of the zillions of World War II RTS games released over the years, Company of Heroes easily tops my list of favorites.

You can read the entire article starting from here.

Thanks to Soul for the heads up.
