Company of Heroes Expansion?

Posted in Company of Heroes by on March 26th, 2007

Looks like we just got official confirmation of a Company of Heroes Expansion. Jeff Green at 1up posted a small blurb about their upcoming exclusive about Relic's follow up to Company of Heroes. Should be on shelves soon.
Anyway, start looking for our new issue soon. It's not really a Peggle cover. It's one of those "exclusive" stories---this time about the followup to Relic's awesome Company of Heroes. Guess what? We get to kill more Nazis again!! Yay! Them shitz never gets old, knowhumsayin?
Now the question remains. Battle of the Bulge or Operation Marget Garden (CoH:OMG for the win)? The paratrooper in me hopes for CoH:OMG. Thanks to Sacer for the heads up.

COH Replay Analyser

Posted in Company of Heroes by on March 22nd, 2007

Okay, this is pretty sweet. Some of the folks over at GameReplays have put together the COH Replay Analyser, which shows in a graphical view as well as a logged view everything that happened in the game - orders, special abilities, et cetera.

Props to Planet COH for the heads up.

Dark Crusade Ladder Reset Imminent

Posted in Dawn of War by on March 20th, 2007

Our favorite community manager Allie just posted this on the forums:

Please note that the Dark Crusade Gamespy ladders will be reset tonight between 7 pm PST and 9 pm PST.

We assume the reset is due to the massive balance and gameplay changes introduced by the recently released patch 1.2 for Dark Crusade. The ladders for Dawn of War / Winter Assault have been reset in the past after major patches.

If you wish to discuss this, go here. If you want to download patch 1.2, go here.

COH Map Builder Tutorial!

Buggo posted some map making tutorials, made by Relic’s Nutter, for people to view. It is a pretty simple but informative slideshow. Check it out here.

Gamereplays.org - CoH Battletest

Posted in Company of Heroes by on March 14th, 2007

The guys over at Gamereplays.org are working on a Community Balance Patch for CoH.

Thank you for the recent great feedback by all in the discussion room.

This is just the beggining.

GameReplays is now proud to present the new CoH Battletest Forum. The Community Balance Testers Forum. As you might have noticed, HERO is the leader of the CoH Battletesting. Sturmtruppen (CoH Game Admin) will help us with the coding/moding. We expect others with same moding knowlegment to help us out too. Everyone is invited to this unique community event. We want to hear everyone´s opinion about the game balance and changes needed to be done.

Read ALL the new forums guidelines please. Its very important that everyone follows a good conduct in order to reach our main goal: create our own “patch” and see how good it is. For that we need your help.

Play. Post. Change the game your own way.

In light of the balance discussion that was held at the Relic Open House, I think this has the potential to really help the game.

Check it out here.

There’s a thread running on the forums about people’s recollections of the Relic Open House. If you haven’t already, pop in and have a read. If you visited Relic for the open house, and haven’t posted your impressions yet, go for it!

Relic didn’t announce any new games, expansions or anything like that, but we did get to find out they have several teams working on various projects. Watch here for an article (once approved - NDA issues), about my recollections for the weekend.

Want A Job in LA?

Posted in General by on March 9th, 2007

Relic’s hardcore fans have indicated they want to help make games better, so an Ex-Relic dev is now asking if they want to get paid to make games.

Jeff Brown, better known as Soupy, former Design Director for Relic and now Creative Director at Sierra has an opportunity for RTS gamers in the Los Angeles area.

Sierra is looking for the top RTS players in the Los Angeles area to help us balance our upcoming RTS titles. Compensation is in real American $$, not “doll hairs” or “buckazoids”, and is on a contract basis for a length of time to be determined.

Responsibilities include playing the game(s) competitively against the other balance team members, members of the development staff, and members of the production staff at Sierra and giving critical feedback with regards to unit and ability balance, race balance, and as overall pacing of the game, particularly in multiplayer.

Interested people living close enough to Vivendi Universal’s location at 6060 Center Drive, LA CA 90045 should send their resumes to jeff.brown@sierra.com with the title Balance Team Application. You must be at least 18 to apply.

We also need people who can come in for a single evening to play our upcoming RTS titles and give us critical qualitative feedback. This focus group feedback is compensated, and usually occurs weeknights after 4pm for 2-3 hours.

Interested parties should apply to http://research.vugames.com

This represents a unique opportunity to make the games you play better by helping us balance our games for the hardcore, competitive RTS player.

Jeff Brown
Creative Director
Sierra

I’ve done focus testing for Relic before, and it’s quite an interesting process. If you’re in the LA area, and interested in game design, drop Jeff a line. Relic needs a bit of competition to keep them on their toes!

Dark Crusade: Jonny Ebert Interview

Posted in Relic, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes by on March 8th, 2007

Jonny’s one of (now many) designers down at Relic that I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet. Luckily, Hermetrium over at Gamereplays.org put together a great interview with him.

Now we look into the future: Will Dawn of War get any more expansions? Or are we not having anymore? Or can you not say?

Jonny Ebbert: I can’t say.

Will the Dawn of War Franchise be continued?

Jonny Ebbert: Let’s just say that I’d be shocked if it didn’t.

Can we expect future changes to Dark crusade? Like Relic online being added, or an online persistent campaigns perhaps? Or am I basing this question entirely on rumors and theory?

Jonny Ebbert: DoW is a living thing, so I wouldn’t rule anything out.

It’s just if Relic announced Dark Crusade was going Relic online, it would definitely be the single greatest thing ever to happen.

Jonny Ebbert: heh, good to know. It’s certainly a possibility

hahaha like they’re NOT working on Dawn of War 2. Do they think we’re STUPID? :-D

Seriously, there’s lots of great info in there, for the hardcore DoW players, and the regular Relic fans.

Good interview Jonny, hope to meet you at the Open House on Friday!
