My problem is that Vista works fine on my rig, and most games work fine too - but with most games I tried the performance was just a lot less than with the same rig under XP. if there is any way to remediate that, I'll gladly go Vista for games.

WABBIT:

You can ignore that AGP/PCI warning. That also comes up in XP if you have a PCI-X card. Same with the graphics drivers warning.

Homeworld 2 runs beautifully on my Vista based rig (I played in on Vista 32 and 64 bit).

I actually have two issues, which I beleieve are linked to a single problem. One is that it reports to me that my "agp" card is running in pci mode and needs to be addressed (my card is pci-X). It then tells me my graphics drivers are out of date and need to be updated, lol. Game will sort of run, but jumpy and any change to video settings will cause major malfunction rendering it unplayable and having to be reinstalled.

geforce 8800m gts 512 ddr3
4gb ddr2 at 667mhz

Vista home premium 64 bit

Works flawlessly. Post on the tech forums and I can give you some help.

It was the first game I re-installed after installing one of the Vista release candidates, has worked since then.

Homeworld 2 works in Vista?

That's news to me. I've been trying to get it to function since last May.
