Layoffs for Relic?

Posted in Relic, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes by on February 4th, 2009

THQ's stated in their Q3 earnings report that they will cut 600 jobs or 24% of their workforce in the upcoming year.

Relic's a big component of THQ. I sadly expect Relic to not make it through unscathed.

What will this mean for upcoming projects? Dawn of War II is just about released, Tales of Valour and Company of Heroes Online are well underway, and they've got at least one unannounced project in the works. Those of you following the game industry know very well that with the end of projects there come job cuts. Unless there's a serious uptick in sales of Relic games, Relic will be likely shedding a few jobs.

I am sorry to here that and I hope the folks at Relic that do get laid off find work soon. :) Look at it this way Relic folks you could live here in the USA get laid off and have no health care at the same time at lest in Canada you wont have to worry about that. Good luck to ya.

Fine… I’ll go pre-order DOW2 today… I still think it’s only worth $40 in it’s stripped down initial release form, but if they’re facing cuts, this is no time for us to be petty.
