Eurogamer’s Preview of WH40k: Space Marine
Posted in Space Marine by Someguy on May 28th, 2009
Eurogamer posted their preview of Space Marine last evening. The article goes into a bit more detail about what was seen during the presentation. For example, the current control scheme was mentioned,
During the in-game scenes shown at Relic’s offices, space marines from the Ultramarine chapter (placeholders for now) chomp through masses and masses of orks, using jetpacks to propel themselves into the thick of them and spread them out by crashing down with a splash damage attack, before wading in with sawblades and hammers. Up against larger Nobs and Warbosses, they grind their blades against limb armour, or crash them into midriffs. From distance, they rely on their guns, emphasising their versatility, and Relic explains that the control scheme (although, again, just a placeholder) currently spreads melee attacks over face buttons and ranged ones onto the shoulders. Using Relic’s new Phoenix engine - custom-built for the game - the enemy numbers, model quality and scale are every bit in-keeping with the 40k image that Games Workshop so valiantly asserts.
Also Chad McFarlane, the producer for Space Marine, mentions that,
“We want this game to be playable with friends,” says McFarlane. “It’s a big focus.”
Come on four player co-op!
Relic’s next game, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine
Posted in Space Marine by Someguy on May 27th, 2009
Relic’s next game is an action RPG based on the Warhammer 40k universe. It will be coming out for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. IGN is first to announcement the upcoming action RPG,
In Space Marine you play as (surprise!) a Space Marine, a genetically enhanced super soldier engineered specifically to smash the faces of anything that gets in the way. We witnessed in the video a group of four Space Marines landing on an Imperial planet to fend off a massive incursion of Orks. If you have no idea what Warhammer 40,000 is, then you should just know that it’s a universe within which numerous alien races are constantly killing each other in a spectacularly gory manner, and generally enjoying the process.
Things I noticed from the video that it presents a squad of four space marines each with a different set of equipment. I can’t say if that is part of the gameplay where you run as a squad. I can also see the grand potential of a rocking co-op mode up to four people. The graphics are much better looking than Relic’s prior console game, the Outfit. Can’t wait for E3 now!
Stay Tuned….

New Panzerkrieg Map, Hébécrevon
Posted in Company of Heroes by Someguy on May 26th, 2009
Thunder posted a feature on the upcoming Panzerkrieg map, Hebecrevon. This map will be featured in the upcoming 2.600 patch. Here is a quick snip about the origins of this map,
This map is a derivative of mission eleven of the original Invasion of Normandy campaign where you battled a number of hidden Panthers. Considering that this map was originally designed to be a tank and vehicle battle map, we felt it had great potential to serve as the basis for a Panzerkrieg map. Thus Panzerkrieg: Hebecrevon was born.
