Welcome to the first Issue of Chronica Modificatus! News of modifications to Dawn of War!
This hopefully will become a regular update of various modification teams that work hard on adding races, units, maps and other things to Dawn of War!
Each issue we’ll have some news of updates from what people are up to, and some features on the different teams and modders, hopefully with some insights in how they are getting along and something interesting for modders and non-modders alike.
If you have anything to add to the next issue or have any queries, contact Finaldeath by PM, thanks!
Recent News
Since this is the first issue, it is hard to pick out news from the amazing amount of work done thus far. If I have forgotten anything, contact me by PM and I will add it into the next set of news.
Patch 1.41 and Mod Tools 1.41
Recently, the patch 1.41 released on 16/11/2005, annouced the up and coming mod tools soon;
For those of you interested in modding, we will also be releasing a new set of RDN tools for Dawn of War in the near future (think a week or two). We hope to have the luas available for download when the patch goes live, so that should keep you busy in the interim.
Sure enough, the mod tools were released later on 03/12/2005, with updated LUA files for version 1.41 of the game and all working tools, thanks Relic!
This is good news for all the modders and should mean a lot of mods get back in action en mass. On a 1.41 sidenote, forum member mlai has found out that Exclusive conditions work in 1.41, allowing complex research and tech trees to take place now.
RGD Decompiler
Well before any new mod tools were announced, some community members took it upon themselves to decode the compiled RGD attribute files that Relic stores unit data in. There now is the RGD decompiler, buried under a massivly long thread several modders decoded the RGD files and made decompilers, so modders can check out any other future patch changes to statistics, and make slight alterations to exsistin RGD files without the need for massive binary recompiling.
WHM Import Script
Brother Santos has provided the modding community version 0.2 of his WHM Import Script, available here. Any modelers who wish to alter exsisting models can do so very easily now, and many people have lept into making leftout IG weaponry available (aptly named “Imperial Guard: Missing In Action”), Chaos Land Raiders and Various varients of vehicles.
New tutorials for new modders
Kresjah has created two new tutorials on UI layout, while Brother Santos has step by step guides to altering exsisting vehicles, helmets and random body parts. Thanks a lot guys!
Recent Mods Update Roundup…
Since the latest patch and expansion has been released, some modifications have stopped working. Luckily, people have been making thier mods patch-compatible and a full list can be found on the DoW Completed Mods Discussion forum, and unfinished mods can be found on the DoW Mods in progress forum.
Recent new ones include returning the Space Marine heroes original weapons, while keeping the stats the same. Imperial Guard: Missing In Action makes weaponry left out of Winter Assault available (if a little unbalanced), for show, and you can also finally have full non-colour bleeding Quartered and Halved space marine patterns.
Mods in progress include the return of Grotfest, as well as updates to many mods threads, including the Codex Witch Hunters-Adepta Sororitas mod.
Next time I’ll make sure to update a list of comprehensive news items from when this is released, so don’t be worried if any updates you’ve done were left out this time!
