Homeworld 2 Logo Belt Buckle!
This is the story of a belt buckle made by Yian… in his words…
“The thing is not finished, though, as you can see the soddering need to cleaned up. My professor taught me how to make it and helped me like 75% of the work. It will be complete by next Monday.
The little dot at the upper middle section is a bit off and the upper part of the ring is not centered, too… Well this is my first metal project, so I hope I will do a lot better on the next one. My professor had absolutely no idea what this thing is and always prefer to view it up side down while planning the work.”
“The upper part, includes all the pieces like circles, rings, and wings, were 16 gauge. The bottom piece was 18 gauge, all pretty thick.
Certain parts shifted to the left during the heating and we had to reheat it to melt the solder to move them back. The result was solder all over the piece, which is kind of hard to sand off. In fact another solder was needed just to fill all the back of the piece since some of them weren’t flat and I had to hammer them to even.
I have been sanding it ever since, but the silver-looking solder won’t go away. This is how it looks right now, but it will get better.”
